The German Christmas market was opened this year by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh on November 24th. The German Christmas market in Edinburgh consists of 25 little wooden cabins, like smurfs homes, each brightly illuminated with all of the usual seasonal trimmings.

If it is a city celebration on a large scale you're looking for, the world famous street party in Edinburgh sees one hundred thousand people from across the world come together to sing, dance, hug, kiss and celebrate the new year below the spectacular backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. The star of the show is the dazzling fireworks display, launched from the Castle and six other sites through the city. The huge street party takes place in the centre of town with live music and theatre on several stages along Princes Street, George Street and the Royal Mile. The event includes contemporary and traditional music, pipe bands, street theatre and a fantastic firework display!
